Music – Plastic – Sculpture – Space
My tactile work with the piano is like a laying of hands
upon the instrument. It’s like I’m hitting it, I’m touching
the instrument, I’m squeezing sounds out of it.
My musical material starts with white noise. It virtually covers the entire
audible spectrum. White noise is a multi-dimensional, raw sound material, comparable
with raw, unsculptured stone. Through cutting, carving, chiselling, (which means
filtering, granulating, stretching and compressing) I work into the block of
stone, the sound mass. The sinus tone is the simplest wave without overtones.
It forms material for building with, for plasticity and for synthesis. My music
can be found between both extremes, between white noise and sinus tones. It
does not matter if that music is instrumental or electronic, it creates space,
and takes up space, like a sculpture.
There are musical networks and there is composition. I can work in proportions,
like in sculpture, in the medium of time or when I use various frequencies.
Those two things, time and frequency, can be swapped around and then musical
allusions to texture, conglomeration or to growth and protrusion arise. This
is the way I arrive at my musical sculptures. They are heard in ways which are
architectonic but also in ways which have purely to do with the individual,
with her or his personal, aesthetic space.

Musik - Plastik - Skulptur - Raum
musikalischer Umgang
